What is SHAC?

The Student Help and Advocacy Centre (SHAC) is a student run advocacy and referral centre that provides a safe space for students to ask questions and get information. SHAC staff and volunteers will assist students in a confidential and compassionate manner to provide them with the information they need

SHAC’s Vision

SHAC strives to eliminate the discrimination against people facing all forms of oppression as well as the stigma of asking for help. Our goals as an organization are to work hard to help advocate for the rights of the oppressed a well as to aid as many people as possible in finding the resources they need to be successful in their endeavors. We are committed to providing assistance in a timely, compassionate and informative way and will always work to find an answer to every question.

SHAC hopes to work in solidarity with others in being proactive in its approach to relevant campus issues. We provide student-to-student support that strives to be inclusive and equitable for all individuals

What can SHAC do for you?

SHAC provides free electronic and print resources, referrals and advocacy service on walk-in or appointment basis. We focus on the following issues: academic, financial, housing/tenancy, human rights, legal, university processes, etc.

Students have the opportunity to take advantage of free legal aid services during the fall and winter semesters with a tenancy lawyer who holds office hours once a week out of the SHAC office.
